Travel TipsAccommodation Beyond Cairo & LuxorWhenever we operate a trip that ventures beyond Egypt's most visited destinations, accommodation standards may differ slightly from those found in Cairo and Luxor. We carefully select the best available family-friendly properties in each location, prioritising cleanliness, comfort and a welcoming experience. A Night Aboard the FeluccaOne night of this journey is spent camping on the felucca's riverbank rather than in a hotel — a support crew sets up proper bedding and private washroom facilities at each stop, so the experience stays authentic without giving up basic comforts. It's a highlight for most families, but let us know in advance if anyone in your group would prefer a hotel stay instead. Walking & AccessibilitySome sites involve walking on uneven terrain, sandy paths, rocky surfaces, or stairs. If you normally use a walking cane or other mobility aid, we recommend bringing it with you for added comfort. Comfort During VisitsDuring guided visits, there may be times when you will stand while listening to your guide, wait for transportation, or queue at attractions. If standing for extended periods is uncomfortable, we recommend bringing a lightweight foldable chair or informing Cometra in advance so we can assist where possible. We'd also suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes, packing a sun hat, and dressing for the day's activities — especially when visiting sandy or desert areas. Stay HydratedAs we spend much of the day exploring, we encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle. Refill stations are available in many locations, helping you stay hydrated while supporting sustainable travel. Currency & VisaEgyptian pounds (EGP) are the local currency; USD is widely accepted for tips and some purchases. Most nationalities can obtain an e-visa or visa on arrival — confirm requirements for your passport before travel. Read our full Essential Travel Information guide. Trip OverviewTen days of pyramids, temples, a night on a moving train, and a night under the stars on a private felucca — Egypt's classic route, the traditional way. This is COMETRA's most complete family introduction to Egypt, and its most adventurous. Two days in Cairo cover Saqqara, Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum before an overnight sleeper train carries the family south to Aswan — a private cabin and dinner on board turning transit into an experience in itself. From Aswan, an optional visit to Abu Simbel and an included stop at a Nubian village lead into the journey's signature chapter: a private felucca sail downriver towards Kom Ombo, with a night camping on a quiet riverbank under a sky full of stars. The felucca gives way to the road for the final stretch into Luxor, where three unhurried nights take in Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple. A private guide experienced with children travels with your family throughout. It's rarely the pyramids the children remember first — it's the night on the felucca, camping under more stars than they've ever seen.
